In 2015, the Company decided to enter the Philippine domestic telecommunications industry by investing in InfiniVAN, Inc.
The Philippines is said to have the slowest and most unreliable internet service among the ASEAN countries. Unlike to Japan, there are of course unique structural factors that contribute to the situation. We have decided to take on the mission of creating a mechanism that would address these structural factors and satisfy pent up demand for better service. We are confident that this objective is achievable and that we can deliver the desired services at reasonable costs to the customers.
Specifically, the company aims to build a series of ringed networks interconnecting cable TV operators across the major cities in the Philippines. Cable TV operators, while having access into the homes of their subscribers in their respective service areas, have limited or prohibitively expensive access to the internet backbone network to deliver broadband services – which is now their bread and butter. The company will provision a redundant and resilient backbone network that will enable cable tv companies to deliver not only 4K – 8K video services but also other non-video value added services that will allow them to have an even deeper engagement with their customers in their respective service area networks.
